What Can We Expect with 5G?

5G stands for the fifth (5) generation (G) of mobile networks. It comes with the promise of being 100 times faster than 4G. Do people really know the benefits of this blazing fast technology yet? Kind of.

Almost all smartphones today can run on 5G. It uses the same radio frequencies as 4G, but just enables your phone and its cellular connection to go further.

Ericsson predicts that over 100 million mobile subscribers will be able to connect to 5G connection in the United States by 2022. However, do we really know or understand the advantages this type of connection can bring?

1. Speed improvements won’t be noticed right off the bat. The Washington Post reports that AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all show minimal 5G speed increases compared to 4G from 2020 to 2021.

2. We will see a comeback in the Internet of Things. Though the concept of IoT came about a few years ago, expect to see more about how 5G helps not only connect devices, but also enables those devices to be able to carry more data faster than ever before.

3. Coverage will improve all around. Speed increases won’t be too noticeable everywhere just yet, but coverage within specific locations could improve up to 25% immediately.

The future of what 5G can offer us in the future is really and truly a game-changer.
